Dr. Hogan, Sinus Lift, Columbia Periodontist, South Carolina, SC

This surgery is required when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw to have a dental implant. This procedure increases the amount of bone that is available so that an implant can be successfully placed. First, the sinus membrane is lifted to provide a route for which the bone can be placed. The additional bone is either taken from the individual or synthetically produced. It is placed between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses (located on both sides of your nose). Once the bone is placed, it will be stitched up. Generally, the implants are placed nine months after the sinus lift depending on the type of bone used and your ability to heal. It is important that following the procedure, you do not blow your nose or sneeze. Doing so can move the new bone and loosen teeth.
