Crown lengthening is the process of adjusting gum tissue to insert a new crown or perform another type of restoration. Crown lengthening is usually needed when a tooth needs a crown is below the gum tissue and is not accessible. This also allows one to brush and floss around the restoration area to prevent decay and gum disease.

Upon completion of the crown lengthening, sutures will be placed in the area to aid the healing process. Usually, four to five weeks later, your restoration doctor will then be able to perform the necessary restorative procedure.
