Frenectomy is the surgical procedure for removing a frenum. A frenum is a fold of tissue that passes from the lips or cheeks to the gum. Sometimes, the frenum is longer or shorter than average. This can interfere with the normal alignment of teeth, or it can possibly pull the gums away from the teeth, exposing you to a greater likelihood of dental problems. A frenectomy corrects this problem. It is a simple procedure that involves local anesthesia while Dr. Hogan corrects the frenum.
